Every summer girls arrive at Girl Scouts San Diego summer camps excited for new adventures, fun, and making lifelong memories. Camp Winacka, located in beautiful Julian, CA is a unique rustic camp that features traditional camp activities with specialty programs including swimming, equestrian and high adventure programs, environmental education and arts and crafts. Campers and staff sleep in open air cabins, platform tents or on cots under the stars.
Under moderate supervision, the Canoe Specialist develops and delivers a program in areas of high adventures that are fun, safe and appropriate to the camper’s age and abilities. Plans and leads off-camp trips for canoeing. Assists in the management of related equipment.
Develops and delivers a canoe program that is appropriate to the age and abilities of the campers. Ensures appropriate progression of all activities.
Attends staff meetings as needed.
Responsible for inspection, repair and check in/out of camp equipment related to canoeing.
Transports campers and staff as needed.
Teaches staff and campers the skills necessary for a fun and safe experience including personal and group health and safety, care and use of equipment, tip tests, emergency procedures, etc.
Assists Program Director and Unit Directors in scheduling of canoe programs.
Organizes canoe trips with unit director and program director; files itinerary with supervisor before each trip.

This seasonal position begins June 14th and ends August 18, 2018.
Experience and Skills:
At least one year experience in high adventure trip leadership, preferably with a youth organization.
Must be able to provide proof American Canoe Association Canoe Touring Level 1 certification, or documented 2-3 years of experience in canoeing.
Must be 21 years of age.
Must be able to obtain current First Aid/CPR certification by first day of campers’ arrival.
Current Lifeguard certification preferred.
Valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required. Must be comfortable driving narrow, winding mountain roads with passengers in mini or cargo vans.
