LMI Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer in Vista, California

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in the success of the productivity improvements for the assigned business site. Specifically, the ME will lead efforts in the creation of standardized work instructions and manufacturing methodology per AS9100 requirements. Additionally, the ME will act as the key resource in keeping the system, ECNs, work instructions, tooling, and new product launches efficient by reducing defects, cost, and down time on production floor. In all actions supports LMI’s Quality Policy, Safety Policy, Mission Statement, individual accountability, commitment to total customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, machining, assembly methods and production equipment.

  • Analyzing manufacturing process flows continually for the enhancements of quality, on time delivery, and cost reduction.

  • Calculate production, labor and material costs, review production schedules, estimate future requirements.

  • Confers with planning, production, and other key staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop orders in accordance with the quality assurance functions.

  • Responsible for writing tool orders and providing oversight of tooling projects on new process development.

  • Provide engineering support in production department to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.

  • Competent knowledge of material types, metal part manufacturing and industrial processes.

  • Maintains product and process data base by writing manufacturing planning instructions /routers using the current software utilized by site (i.e. Vista by Epicor)

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train and guide technicians

  • Occasional travel may be required.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Four-year Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology or similar.

Experience Required:

Minimum of five-years of ME experience in machined components/parts (preferably in the Aerospace Industry). Comfortable dealing with Complexity, Fast Paced Environment, Military and Hardware Specifications, Manufacturing methods and Procedures, Manufacturing Quality, and New Product Development.

Skills Required:

  • Train and instruct less experienced “junior” engineers in regards to all skills and job requirements for entry level Manufacturing Engineering positions.

  • Blue Print reading and comprehension and experience with ANSI Y14.5 (Geometric Dimension and Tolerance)Knowledge of lean manufacturing processes

  • Shop floor design, layout and work flow

  • Understanding of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering concepts and processes

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Advanced ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and present recommended solutions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

  • Knowledge of Mastercam, CATIA, AutoCAD or CAD Key design software Design software; Microsoft Project Management software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Problem Solving- Identifies patterns or trends; links parts of a problem to a broader set of issues by using data and metrics.

  • Interpersonal Skills- Relates well to all kinds of people – up, down and sideways, inside and outside the organization.

Work Environment / Other Position Requirements:

Depending on site manufacturing process may be required to work “non-standard” schedule occasional “on-call” including weekends and some holidays.
